Writing Teacher Specializing in College Application Process

Hello! I have recently retired after working as a high school English teacher in Massachusetts for the past two decades, specializing in 10th and 12th grade writing and literature instruction, both college preparatory and honors level. I received my BA degree in English from UMass Amherst and a Master's Degree in Secondary English Education from Boston University.

My current focus is working with college-bound students in generating the best quality college essay -- from appropriate topic choice through outlines, multiple drafts, and the finished final product. Over the years, a number of students with whom I have collaborated have been accepted to top-tier schools.
Prior to becoming a high school teacher, I worked reviewing incoming applications in the admissions office at Harvard University School of Design and at Boston University Law School, which helped with an "inside" perspective on what colleges are looking for in terms of writing content and quality.

In the 30+ years I have worked with teenagers, the rapport I am able to naturally establish with my students has always been my primary strength. Beyond the college essay, other areas of expertise include English literature and poetry analysis, composition, research, proofreading and editing. I am also skilled in teaching public speaking and debate. Patience and a sense of humor characterize my instructional style.
