I am a Virginia-certified high school Social Studies teacher with Fairfax County Public Schools, currently teaching U.S. History and U.S. Government. I help students improve their writing, strengthen their understanding of content, and perform more effectively on assessments and AP exams. In particular, I support students in AP Government and AP U.S. History, with a focus on DBQs, LEQs, FRQs, and other AP-style questions. I also provide targeted support for students preparing for SOL coursework and exams.

Because I teach these subjects daily, I understand how assignments are designed and how student work is evaluated. As a result, I can better prepare students for success in both their coursework and assessments. I help students develop strong thesis statements, write well-organized essays, and analyze primary sources, while also improving their ability to approach AP-style writing with clarity and confidence. My sessions are structured to break down complex material into manageable steps and promote independence and long-term academic growth.

While I primarily work with students in Honors and AP-level courses, I also support a range of learners through adaptable instruction and clear expectations. In addition, I work with college students in introductory Government or Political Science courses and offer SAT/ACT preparation (reading, writing, and analysis), along with executive functioning support such as organization, time management, and study strategies.

Ultimately, my goal is to help students build lasting academic skills and confidence that carry over into future coursework. I work with students during the school year, over the summer, and in preparation for upcoming courses or exams, and I would be happy to help.

He explains historical concepts, themes, and context in a way that really helps my daughter connect the material and think critically. He is also very patient, taking the time to make sure she fully understands each topic before moving on. What stands out most is how well he tailors each session to her needs, focusing on areas where she needs extra support and adjusting his approach to match her learning style. In addition, Rich consistently provides thoughtful feedback after each session, which has been extremely helpful in tracking her progress and identifying areas for improvement.
