Hi! My name is Edward, but most students call me Eddie. I can help you master AMC (American Math Competition), ACT, AP Calc AB, and college essays.

I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Computational Cognitive Science, where I studied how people think, learn, and solve problems through a computer science lens. I am now pursuing a Master’s in Data Science at Harvard University. My educational background has given me the ability to think critically and learn how to make material stick.

I have 5+ years of experience tutoring high school students in math, test preparation, and college applications. I specialize in the AMC 8/10/12, ACT, AP Calculus AB, and college essay workshops. Many of my students have been admitted to top universities, including Stanford, Columbia, and the University of Pennsylvania, and a few have also qualified for AIME. I have personally qualified for AIME and scored a 34+ on the ACT, which helps me teach from firsthand experience and share practical strategies that actually work.

My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and focused on helping each student understand the “why” behind every problem. I like to break concepts into smaller, clearer steps and build from there, so students feel confident tackling even the hardest questions.

This translates into college essays as well, where I focus on helping students establish the “Who am I” question to translate their unique skill sets into their essays.

Here is what I always advise students and parents: I see problem-solving as one of the most beautiful skills a person can learn. Every lesson I teach aims to make that process clearer, more meaningful, and more rewarding.

AMC (Competition math)

AMC (Competition math)

As the Founder and President of my high school’s Math Competition Club and an AIME qualifier via AMC 12, I have mastered the nuances of Mu Alpha Theta, the Virginia Mathematics League, and the AMC 8/10/12. However, my teaching philosophy was truly defined by my study of Discrete Math at UPenn. This rigorous, proof-based background shifted my perspective: I no longer see the AMC 8/10/12 as a test of random tips, tricks, and efficiency, but as an exercise in creative and critical thinking. While many tutors focus on shortcuts, I teach students to apply the formal logic used in advanced mathematics to deconstruct complex problems. By bridging the gap between competition strategies and rigorous mathematical proofs, I help students cultivate the high-level intuition and precision required to master the AMC and qualify for the AIME.

Applying to college can be an overwhelming process, but it is also a powerful opportunity for a student to discover their own story. As a mentor who has helped over 10 students earn admission to top-tier schools like Stanford and UPenn, I focus on more than just checkboxes. I work closely with students to uncover a central theme that ties their high school experiences together into a meaningful, holistic profile. My approach centers on collaborative essay workshops and a deep dive into the Common App. I believe that a successful application is a "spike" of authentic passion rather than just a list of accomplishments. I help students move beyond the pressure of being perfect so they can focus on being compelling. By aligning their activity lists with a consistent narrative, I ensure that admissions officers see a multidimensional person who is ready to contribute to their campus. My goal is to guide students through the complexities of T10 admissions with clarity, confidence, and a clear sense of purpose.
