I have my master's degree from George Washington University, and am certified in Middle School Mathematics in the state of Virginia. Having worked in the public school system for over 20 years, and having worked with a diverse group of learners over the years, from elementary to high school, I have learned ways of engaging students in the material that makes it fun and exciting. The best teachers I had growing up related the content to the real-world, while making it fun, and I always try to follow that example. Lesson planning is a key part of my routine when tutoring students, so you can know that I will go in with a plan to help your student achieve understanding, rather than just going with the flow.
I have taught in the public school system, and in private education, for over 20 years. I have had the privilege of working with elementary, middle and high school students. I can teach basic multiplication, to long division, to algebraic expressions. I love to begin my tutoring by learning what the student knows upfront and work from there. As always in math, nothing can replace practice in understanding math, so I allow students the chance to practice, make mistakes, and figure out where he or she can learn from the mistakes. Being in Title 1 education as long as I have, I have learned that patience is the key to helping students understand the material, and it may take time, but I will do whatever it takes to help your student understand the content.
