I'm Virginia! I graduated Cum Laude from Dickinson College with a B.A. in International Studies and Middle East Studies and a minor in Arabic. After a brief stint in the think tank world I realized my true passion was teaching, and attended American University where I earned an M.A. in International Peace and Conflict Resolution and an M.A.T. (Master of Arts in Teaching) in Secondary Education. I have experience teaching both middle and high school students, in both public and independent school settings. My favorite part about being a teacher is helping students understand material they have been struggling with, as well as helping them gain confidence in their abilities.

My approach to teaching history is to make lessons interesting and engaging for students by using a variety of activities. In addition to helping students understand what happened in historical events, I also ensure they understand why historical events happened, and the impacts that those events had as well as connections to the world we live in today. I also incorporate critical thinking and writing skills, including source analysis, evidence-based argument construction, and practice demonstrating knowledge verbally and in writing.
