I earned a B.S. in chemistry from the Seoul National University and my Ph.D. from Indiana University in biochemistry. My postdoctoral research at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center focused on the function, regulation and assembly of the proteasome. During these predoctoral and postdoctoral trainings of more than 10 years of laboratory research, I have had an in depth research experiences in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology and microbiology area and my projects have involved topics ranging from viral genome replication, control of gene expression and protein homeostasis. Additionally, I had several years of experience mentoring high school student, undergraduates, and graduate students for their research during my academic trainings and had a teaching assistant and tutoring experience for biochemistry and molecular biology during these periods.

Modern molecular biology (biochemistry) classes are very information heavy by dealing with from molecular basis of life process to cellular physiology, so lots of things to be memorized. However, as an effective teacher, I do not want students just to memorize large amounts of facts and information which are shown in the textbook. Instead I will make my students learn the ability to see the fundamental principles which explain all the common molecular basis of living processes (e.g., energy metabolism, heredity and genetic information flow from DNA to protein) and understand big picture ideas (the secret and mystery of the life) that diverse organisms share and differentiate. I’m excited to have this tutoring opportunity to work with students individually and I will encourage students who are eager to learn the important concepts of modern biochemistry.
