Hello, I am Kate and I love to help students learn!

Experience: I have a broad background in teaching math and science. I have worked for an online tutoring agency for the past 2 years and have a client rating of 4.9/5. I spent 3 of the last 5 years working with students in Middle School Math and Science as a volunteer, substitute teacher and classroom teacher. My focus on middle school developed as my family grew but I began teaching in college. I got my Bachelors in Biology with an English minor and graduated Suma Cum Laude. In college I worked as a TA after finding that I really enjoyed helping my peers understand and think about what we were learning. I continued teaching in graduate school where I got my Ph.D. in Animal Behavior. I began volunteering in education after I graduated.

Approach: I am experienced with many approaches to student learning. I have consistently found that a good working relationship with students and understanding how they best learn is essential. Tutors need to adapt their teaching to the learning needs of the student.

As a tutor I am very patient and teach problem solving in math and science by breaking them into steps. I am really passionate and excited about math and science and sometimes a bit silly when I teach. I often choose odd or ridiculous examples to keep students engaged and curious.

Clients and Subjects: My scope is broad because I enjoy the challenge of teaching different subjects and levels. I most often teach middle school students but my clients vary in age from elementary to high school. I have students who struggle and others who need enrichment.

I teach 6-8th grade Math and Science, Elementary Math and Science, as well as Algebra, Pre-Algebra, Geometry, Biology, and Chemistry. I will adapt to what you need. Some families give me curriculum, others need help with homework, while others need materials and a plan of study. I am easy to reach and have a flexible schedule. I look forward to working with your learner and family.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have worked with students in both classroom and online settings in Algebra 1 over the course of the last 5 years. I have done it enough that I can explain all the concepts in several different ways and have developed a strategy to help students tackle multi-step problems that they are stuck on. I am also very patient and truly enjoy helping students learn.
Ecology

Ecology

Ecology is what originally got me interested in studying science and what led me to continue working on it as an undergraduate and graduate student. It was a big part of the research I did so I have a passion for it. I love sharing my excitement with students and helping them understand it whether it is the basics or content with more complexities. I also have experience helping students both in science classrooms and online for the past 5 years.

Fantastic 9th Grade Biology & Algebra Tutor - Patient, Supportive & Effective

Kate has been an absolute gem for my daughter. She is not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also extremely patient, understanding, and supportive. She truly takes the time to understand my daughter’s individual needs and learning style, which has made such a difference in both her confidence and academic progress. What stands out most is that Kate goes beyond simply helping with homework or preparing for the next test. She provides thoughtful follow-up study materials after sessions and focuses on long-term learning, knowing that repetition, consistency, and strong study habits are key to success. She has helped my daughter build better accountability, organization, and confidence in subjects that previously felt overwhelming. Most importantly, Kate genuinely cares about her students and their success, and it shows in every interaction. Both my daughter and I highly recommend her to any family looking for a tutor who is not only effective, but truly invested in helping students grow and succeed.
