Hi! My name is Lujain, and I’m currently a PhD student in Mathematics with a Master’s degree in Math. I graduated magna cum laude from George Mason University with a double major in Mathematics and Physics, and I’ve been tutoring and teaching students since my undergraduate years.
Over the years, I’ve worked with middle school, high school, and college students through private tutoring as well as my role as a university teaching assistant. In that setting, I’ve led problem sessions, held office hours, and worked one-on-one with students who were struggling with course material. One thing I’ve consistently seen is that many students feel stuck in math not because they can’t do it, but because they’ve been taught to memorize steps without really understanding the “why” behind them. This often leads to frustration and lack of confidence.
My approach to tutoring focuses on building intuition and clear understanding. I take time to identify exactly where a student is getting confused, and then tailor my explanations to their learning style and goals; whether that’s preparing for an exam, improving grades, or developing a deeper understanding of the subject. During sessions, I guide students through examples and then encourage them to actively solve problems, so they gain confidence in their own thinking rather than relying on memorization.
I’ve helped many students improve their performance, but more importantly, I’ve seen them become more confident and comfortable with math. I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions and engage with the material.
