Salut! My name is Marie, a native French and Haitian Creole speaker with 15 years of experience teaching language to everyone, from professionals for international work, legal studies, diplomacy, or global business, to school students. My language teaching journey began by training foreign organizations officials as a freelance trainer both in my home country and here in the US, and I have also taught in US public schools (FL charter schools, Fairfax County Public Schools). I am a Certified / Licensed French teacher in the US.

My background as a lawyer trained in both my country and the US has equipped me with structured communication, critical thinking, and explaining complex concepts with clarity. My extensive work as a translator-interpreter of English-French-Haitian Creole in my country, the U.S., and online adds a cross-cultural layer to my lessons.
For Professionals, I use a goal-oriented communicative approach, incorporating technical vocabulary and task-based lessons applicable to their work duties. For students and other learners, I focus on building strong foundation in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

I use a variety of engaging materials that are: audio, videos, textbooks-with colorful pictures for younger learners- short stories, dialogues, songs, news articles, broadcasts, projects, and role-play for multiple learning activities. A key focus of my instruction is breaking down challenging areas-like the famous French verb conjugations that pair each subject pronoun with a different verb form- into a simple and manageable way!
My passion for language is also literary; I am a published author in a prestigious French journal which earned me an offer to become a shareholder; and a participant in UNESCO, French Alliance and RFI literary contests. I was awarded in 2007 the Fulbright-Humphrey Scholarship by the US Government to pursue a Master of Laws Degree and advanced professional development in the US.
Let me guide you confidently to success in your language journey!

I don’t simply teach my students French; I teach them how to build strong and lasting capacity for language acquisition through an individual-fit, need-based approach. For professionals in particular, this method supports real-world communication, workplace tasks. Lesson plans are designed around their individual needs, with emphasis on building confidence and achieving accurate, effective use of French in momentous academic and professional environments. School students benefit from the same approach: they learn how to think and operate in the language rather than merely study it. Through structured lesson planning and differentiated instruction, my students consistently achieve strong outcomes, including high scores on IB French and AP Capstone French exams. To date, none of them has failed.
World History

World History

I've got a non-traditional path of expertise in world history because I've been an avid reader of world history since my school days. And I did not just focus on a region, I read history on most of the countries and got pretty good knowledge of the famous wars, the former imperialist countries over the ages and epochs which no longer exist. I wanted to know the major events that shaped the world and I spent lot of time in libraries reading history books and still learn from such books or on the web. And i effectively taught world history classes in FCPS at the request of some teachers to cover their absences.
