Hello! I recently graduated from Roanoke College. At Roanoke I had multiple jobs on campus. I was Writing Center tutor for 3 years. I helped students with the writing process, oral presentations, grammar, and proofreading. In addition, I was an academic coach and peer mentor for a short period of time (about 10 months) where I helped struggling freshman become acquainted with college and teach basic study skills such as time management and SMART goals. I also worked as an editor and writer of my college's newspaper for 4 years. I was also a tour guide for the Admissions office at my school for 3 years so I am used to coming in contact with people of all backgrounds. In addition, I have had the opportunity to intern at two museums (the Smithsonian Institute and Taubman Museum of Art) where I was able to actively see how art history is applied to the general public.
My favorite thing about tutoring is when the person I am helping finally gets a concept. It is so satisfying to see that someone gets a concept and can actively apply it on their own. I provide the necessary skills for those I tutor to succeed on their own. My ultimate goal when I tutor is for my pupil to no longer need me anymore.
I have worked for 3 years helping collegiate level writers at my school's writing center. I am a skilled writer that truly understands the basics of writing. I have had the opportunity to work in several settings that have allowed me to both write and proofread--my various internships, tutoring, and reporting/editing at my school's newspaper. I am an avid reader so I have a fairly extensive vocabulary and can quickly learn new words easily.
I majored in Art History so I dedicated most of my undergraduate career to the study and pursuit of art history. I studied abroad in London and had the opportunity to physically see many masterpieces throughout Europe. In addition, the classes I took in London allowed me to study art in the London National Gallery, Tate Modern, Tate Britain, the White Cube, and various smaller art
