I have a Master of Science in Biology as well as a Bachelor of Science in Biology; additionally, I over six years of laboratory experience and have taken related courses such as Cell Biology, Biomedical Research Techniques, Microbiology, Endocrinology, Parasitology, Ecology, Modern Biology, Emerging Infectious Diseases, Virology and Organic Chemistry on the graduate and undergraduate levels. For the past year and a half, I have been employed with Eastern Virginia Medical School in the Sickle Cell department of Internal Medicine as a research assistant for an NIH-funded grant project. More recently, I was encouraged to take on the additional role of research coordinator at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters. A few of my position responsibilities include: screening adult and pediatric patients for study eligibility criteria via Allscripts, entering complete blood count, complete metabolic panel, and hemoglobin electrophoresis laboratory values, as well as many other data management tasks.
Additionally, I have an extensive background in research, education, administrative tasks and laboratory maintenance. I am also empathetic, compassionate, easy to get along with, a leader by example, intelligent, hardworking, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, am an avid learner and am highly involved in the community. Moreover, I have acquired essential skills related to active listening, critical thinking, service orientation, social perceptiveness, public speaking, time management, and troubleshooting.
