I've edited over 100 books in fiction and nonfiction (all genres), as well as theses and dissertations, professional journal articles, cover letters, resumes and more. My past experience includes being an award-winning editor of a business journal, the editor of a lifestyle magazine and a former newspaper columnist.

I've been a career communications professional in PR, media relations and print production, and have tutored middle-grade students and college students in writing. I've partnered with local libraries to talk to students about becoming a writer and led discussion panels on story construction and character development.

I'm knowledgeable in AP, APA, MLA and the Chicago Manual of Style.

I have discovered that to be a truly impactful tutor, listening is just about the most important thing I can do: to observe how the student (school-aged or adult) uses language himself or herself, and to discern his or her style so that it can be communicated naturally and easily in writing.

In addition to tutoring reading and writing, I am also an author coach and tutor the following aspects of publishing: book formatting, uploading to self-publishing platforms like Amazon KDP, and building an author platform.

You will find me to be reliable, friendly and helpful. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule your first session. I look forward to hearing from you!

As a professional writer and former news editor, I am able to convey to students the need to understand grammar, sentence structure, and style. These are some of the areas in which a student needs proficiency in order to master the ACT English Test. I also explain to students that they should be confident when they believe the correct response is that "no change" needs to be made to the sentence or passage.

Debbie is wonderful!

Debbie was fantastic to work with. She was very polite, and nice to talk to. Debbie helped me with everything I needed, as well as found a small error I have been making consistently for over 10 years with APA format, that none of my professors caught. I highly recommend Debbie to anyone considering tutoring.

Resume and Cover Letter Review

I took a tutoring session with Debbie and we reviewed both my resume and cover letter. Debbie gave excellent feedback on ways to make these documents stand out. This included rearranging sentences and changing a few words to allow more of my personality to show. She also caught my small grammar mistakes that were easy to miss. After that one tutoring session I was able to finalize my resume and cover letter and send them out the same day.

Patient and expert with essay writing

In one one-hour session Debbie helped me turn a rough disorganized outline into a full 1500 word essay! In just two sessions Debbie helped me complete and feel confident with my first medical ethics essay! I was completely lost before my first session and now I feel great about my essay and the process of writing an ethical philosophy essay. I will definitely be working with her again

Very knowledgeable and easy to talk with. I am looking forward to successfully self-publish with her help.

Debbie helped me think outside my "box' and got me excited about other things I can be writing. An honor to speak with such a vibrant person who explains things very clearly.
