The above conversation is from Wes Anderson's second film, "Rushmore," and it sums up exactly how I felt when I became a filmmaker almost 20 years ago. I love films and film production. As a result, I enjoy working with students working on film/video projects as they struggle to grasp technique, theory and practice. Whether a student is struggling with the film aesthetics of "Citizen Kane" or how to add credits to their first film, it is important that they not get overwhelmed. My purpose is to help them think through the aesthetic and theoretical aspects of filmmaking in addition to demonstrating technical competency.
I am a producer/screenwriter by trade. I have produced commercials, television shows and even developed a few independent film projects. For the last eight years, I have produced a video podcast for NASA. This has been particularly interesting as it has involved working with emerging media and digital production. Currently, I am also co-writing a screenplay with a colleague in Los Angeles and pursuing an MFA in Screenwriting online.
