I'm Rachel! I graduated from Christopher Newport University in 2014. While in college, I studied English with a concentration in writing. My minor was Communication Studies, which benefited me in expanding how I saw the world and enabled me to better communicate with people around me. My favorite classes in college were the English classes, particularly the class that taught me about tutoring. While I did not offer tutoring services in college, I retained the lessons and I look forward to putting that to work for any student.
As I explained, I have no tutoring experience. Since 2015, I have been working with NSC Pearson, a testing company based out of Norfolk. I grade student-generated essay responses to standardized tests, such as the SAT. This job has given me the experience to help students identify what issues arise in their paper and offer advice on editing and formatting an assignment to earn the best grade from their teacher. I want to get tutoring experience, however, and I hope to become a teacher in the future.
I love tutoring because I love children. I love helping children learn and giving them advice on their work. I love seeing their expression when they finally figure out something that they struggled with in class. I want to help children with their school work, and tutoring allows me to do just that.
