Dear Students and Parents,
I'm Dr. Lakeisha, and I'd love to help your child build confidence in math. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Psychology and a Master's degree in Social Work, and I spent nearly 20 years working as a family services specialist and adult life-skills coach, helping families — including children with autism, ADHD, and other behavioral challenges — build stable routines and reach their goals. That experience taught me how to break big challenges into small, manageable steps, which is exactly how I approach teaching math.
I've also homeschooled my own children for over six years, teaching math from basic arithmetic through Algebra II. In our home, I use hands-on methods — counting objects, real-life examples like measuring ingredients or counting change, and lots of guided practice — to help a concept click before moving to the next one. I work well with elementary and middle school students building foundational skills, as well as high schoolers working through Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry.
My teaching style is patient and encouraging. I never rush a student past a concept they haven't mastered, and I'll adjust my explanation as many times as it takes — a new example, a visual, more repetition — until it makes sense. Many of the students and families I've worked with over the years have learning differences or anxiety around certain subjects, so I'm especially comfortable creating a low-pressure environment where mistakes are treated as part of learning, not something to fear.
I'd be honored to work with your student and help them not just get better grades, but actually enjoy math along the way.
