I have also privately tutored students to prepare for the SAT, college pre-calculus, trigonometry, PRAXIS preparation for the math teacher exam, and a Master's level college educational statistics class.
I have a passion for teaching and tutoring math, which started in high school when I helped everyone in the class that needed assistance. In college, I started tutoring Calculus at a local high school. During my second year of teaching, I started making instructional videos, which I loaded to a YouTube channel, which you can check out here: https://www.youtube.com/@stevenscheerbaum1757. I also became interested in the art of teaching mathematics, so I pursued a doctorate at Old Dominion University in Curriculum and Instruction. This experience had me mentoring and training new math teachers and viewing many veteran and new teachers. After two years of doctoral studies, I decided to return to high school teaching in southeastern Virginia, where I have taught or tutored every high school math course. I have been a summer school teacher, teaching Math 7 and Math 8. I have also worked on curriculum design for Geometry and taken an AP summer institute to better learn about teaching AP Calculus. My experiences and training have helped me to better know what to expect on tests, especially the SAT, AP, and Virginia SOL tests. My experiences also have had me doing a great deal of online instruction.
When it comes to tutoring, my preferred method is to have the student talk more than I do. I do this by asking leading questions and having them explain their work. They are normally surprised when they realize how much they know. I also love tutoring because I students get results when they work with me, and I get to share in their success.
