Hello, my name is Tim. As a third grader, my life was helped by a great tutor who helped me find an interest in school. I understand the value that can come from a little extra help. I hope to guide students and fill in their gaps of knowledge so they can tackle problems that have troubled them in the past as well as spark curiosity in STEM subjects.

I graduated from Tennessee Tech University with cum laude honors in 2009. I then worked for a few years in the engineering industry while completing my Master's degree (2014). Working in the industry was very beneficial, but I wanted more of a challenge, so I decided to pursue my doctorate abroad in England (studying lightning damage in carbon fiber composite materials). I have tutored for the past 5 years mostly in math based curriculum. Currently, I work at a university working on analyzing, manufacturing, and designing carbon fiber composites.

I find it most enjoyable to help students through fundamental math, physics, and engineering (statics, mechanics of material) courses, but do feel free to discuss advanced engineering topics in which I am familiar including digital image correlation (using images to study to deformation of solids), finite element analysis, Groebner basis, plate theory, lightning, and composite materials. I hope to talk soon.

I have a PhD in engineering. I have been using AutoCAD since 2006 during my first course on drafting. It is something I know now like the back of my hand. I have experience in creating professional drawings for constructing building/railways, surveying (topographic/as-built), and using it to simply create figures for journal papers. I still use AutoCAD today to do many drawings to communicate ideas to colleagues, reviewers, and students.

I also earned a Bachelor's and Master's in Civil Engineering concentrating on structural mechanics. I have good experience in courses such as statics, mechanics of materials, finite element analysis, steel/concrete/composite design, and nanomanufacturing. My industrial experience used many of the courses I learned throughout my studies especially in finite element modelling and composite design. Over the last 3 years, I have tutored many basic engineering students needing assistance understanding the course material.

I have a PhD in engineering and used MATLAB frequently to collect, analyze and post-process my results (both experimental and analytical in nature). Not only have I used MATLAB to process data, I have also created programs with GUI interfaces to create applications which can be distributed and used by others. I still use MATLAB today and have coached several colleagues through working with and learning MATLAB.
