About Wendi

I have been teaching/tutoring math for over twenty years. I hold an B.S. and M.S. in Mathematics and an Ed.D. in Mathematics Education. I currently work full time as a Professor of Mathematics at a local community college, where I teach a range of courses, from developmental trough Calc 3. Over my career, I have tutored students in Elementary School through College level Mathematics courses.

In my teaching and tutoring I concentrate on helping students understand concepts, not just memorize formulas. I strive to instill confidence in students and believe that everyone is capable of learning math.

Due to my work responsibilities, I will only be able to offer a few hours of tutoring a week.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have taught Algebra at the middle school and high school level for over 10 years.

Algebra 2

I have taught College Algebra at a community college for over a decade. I emphasize understanding the concepts, as opposed to just memorizing formulas.

Calculus

Over my tenure, I've taught Calculus I, II, and III to engineering and science majors. Additionally, I've also taught Calculus for non-Stem Majors. I enjoy helping students become comfortable with the ideas behind the formulas.

Finite Math

I have taught Finite mathematics at the Community College for over 10 years. The curriculum in this course includes:

Financial Mathematics (Simple and Compound Interest, Annuities, and Amortization)
Matrix Algebra (Solving equations with augmented matrix methods, matrix equations, and cramer's rule. This also includes Leontif Input-Output Analysis)
Set Theory
Probability Theory (Extends to Baye's Theorem)
Markov Chains

Knowledgeable and Patient tutor

Reviewed taylor series, power series, geometric series, double integrals (iterated and regular) and unit circle. Some probability stuff was difficult to review, but overall a productive session
