About Ken

I am a retired Industrial Engineer with an undergraduate degree in Math. I have been teaching at the University of Virginia and Charlottesville schools for the past ten years. Teaching has been and continues to be very rewarding for me. I understand the dynamics of the learning process and have an effective ability to connect with students that are having difficulty with various topics.

My approach to tutoring is not a lecture scenario but a concrete two-way conversation with immediate feedback. The instructional methodology and the specific content is adjusted to the individual student's needs and capabilities.

We will each set goals for the overall tutoring experience as well as the individual sessions. And, I make myself available for mentoring beyond our scheduled meetings for your private problem solving and reading times using email and texting.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bridge

I have 200 ACBL Master points. I have been playing bridge for over forty years and the last 6 years as a duplicate bridge player. I currently teach duplicate bridge at the Charlottesville, Va Senior Center.

Study Skills

I am a retired Industrial Engineer with an undergraduate degree in Math. I have been teaching at the University of Virginia and Charlottesville schools for the past ten years. With over 50 hours of tutoring, my help has been well received. My teaching at the University of Virginia and Charlottesville area schools for ten years has prepared me for helping students not only in my subjects areas but fundamental study and learning techniques as well. I would very much like to be approved to tutor in study skills.

Patient man!

Ken is so patient. It's wonderful. Even today, when there was a section of the math that he wasn't familiar with, he was still able to help my son get to the right conclusion by leading him through a series of questions.
