I’m a chemistry student at the University of Virginia pursuing a 3+1 BS + MS in Chemistry and I’m passionate about helping students build a strong understanding of chemistry rather than simply memorizing formulas and reactions. I graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology with a 4.553 GPA, earning A’s in AP Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, AP Calculus BC, and Linear Algebra. I’ve also competed extensively in chemistry competitions, placing 3rd in the WUCT Partner Exam and 4th in the WUCT Team Exam, as well as earning a 45 on the USNCO Local Exam. While chemistry is my primary focus, I’m also comfortable tutoring mathematics through calculus and linear algebra.
My tutoring style centers around making difficult concepts feel intuitive and manageable. I like to first identify exactly where a student is getting stuck, then break the problem down into smaller pieces and work back toward the bigger picture. Rather than immediately giving students the answer, I use guided questions and examples to help them develop the problem-solving skills to reach it themselves. I also adapt my approach depending on the student; some need practice with challenging problems, while others need heavy drills on their fundamentals. My goal is for students to leave each session not only knowing how to solve a particular problem, but feeling more confident tackling the next one on their own.
