Youth soccer "coaches" are plentiful in our metro area. They are often outstanding volunteer citizens, including hard-working parents, who likely grew up playing and enthusiastically watching baseball, basketball, hockey and/or American football but are relatively new to the mechanics of soccer. Others may bring a lifetime of soccer playing and/or coaching experience from their former homelands but haven't yet fully grasped the unique needs and perspective of a young athlete growing up and developing in the U.S.
I offer a complete blend of a native-born American sports background with a unique global knowledge and passion for the sport we call "soccer." My 35+ years of international soccer experience encompass playing as a midfielder and striker, as well as coaching teams and individual athletes in both field and goalkeeping positions. My past students, however, have gained much more than improved skills and tactics. I encourage them to become 'fluent' in the world's game and dive in!
The most rewarding aspect of my favorite sport is its utility as a 'second language' -- opening doors and knocking down barriers, during any young person's travels beyond her or his own borders. With this universal sporting "passport," I have traveled on nearly every continent as a multimedia soccer "evangelist," capturing the international game and its surrounding cultures through the camera lens, while building many new friendships. Even at the sport's elite level, I have applied my professional skills and knowledge to support the global television transmission of the FIFA World Cup tournament to a record world-wide audience.
I enjoy teaching enthusiastic, dedicated young athletes the proper technical skills and basic tactical knowledge of the game and will be pleased to discuss any personal training & skills program to help the focused athlete maximize their performance. I can also help players who want to improve their kicking techniques in other field sports (rugby and football punting & place kicking).
