Hey! I'm Robert I recently graduated from Virginia Tech with an Electrical Engineering degree, and am now applying to graduate school. For my major I chose radio frequency and microwave engineering and focused on studying electromagnetic waves. As part of the requirements for my degrees I had to take 18 credits of math classes including Calculus of a single and multiple variables, Discrete Math, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations. Then I had to use the concepts from these classes in all of my engineering and physics classes. Outside of class I was involved with different research projects leading to two separate poster presentations at colloquiums, including working to visualize electromagnetic waves inside a VR environment, and developing a deployable antenna.

During a previous internship, I worked for the Hume Center at Virginia Tech. One of the tasks I had was helping teach high school aged students, who visited VT for a STEM camp, about wave physics. The students got to learn through working with a visualization program, and I would go around the room helping guide them along and answering any questions they had. Other teaching experience comes from me being a camp counselor, in which I designed drills to teach middle schoolers about basketball. For my methods of teaching I firmly believe in breaking down the problems into step by step situations, working to visualize the situation, and giving real world examples of the concepts being used. In my experience when working with another or by myself, the struggle to understand usually comes from just one or two steps of the problem. By focusing on the concepts behind the problematic steps the student can quickly learn and become more confident. For visualization, whether drawing diagrams on paper or using an online visualization tool, by seeing what is actually occurring the student can understand the concepts rather than just repeating steps they saw in practice problems.
