Hello! My name is Lindsay. I have 9+ years in education working primarily at the elementary level. I taught kindergarten and first grade and have experience teaching all grades K-5 during summer school. I’m about to finish my reading specialist degree and am working on my PhD in Curriculum and Instruction at VT. I am in instructional coach at two elementary schools where I help students and teachers strive for the very best instruction! Education is my passion and I look forward to helping more students thrive in their reading and writing.
When I tutor, I will first get to know my student(s) personally and academically. I will assess what their needs are reading wise, and from there, I will make a plan and set some goals based on the assessments. Once the plan is in place, I will implement research-based reading practices to help my student reach their reading goals.
Previously, I have helped students master the alphabet principle, honed their decoding and encoding (spelling) skills, and practiced skills necessary to read fluently with comprehension. It is such a joy to see the progress students can make with explicit phonics instruction!
