I am an instructor in English in College and teach college courses in high school to juniors and seniors. I am particularly well qualified to advise students for college since I am familiar with all the procedures and tests for college entrance and acceptance. I am knowledgeable about private as well public universities as well with a number of specialties and departments in colleges. I spent the entire year teaching my students the basic steps toward college application and can help anyone to get organized, fill-out forms and contact colleges in the various areas needed by this student, that is, department programs, financial aid, common application and personal essay along with multiple other elements in that process.

I'm a native French speaker and lived in Paris for 16 years. I'm very good with the accent and have excellent knowledge of grammar. I have a PhD in comparative literature and 30 years of teaching in college and high school, both French and English. I've been tutoring for WyzAnt in English, French, and Latin for over two years.

As I correct hundreds and hundreds or essays and research papers every year and teach students or review with them the use of strong verbs in their writing, punctuation, subordinate clauses, transitional words, I must say I am proud that most of my students make great progress after one month of practice with me. My favorite manual is the Diana Hacker's Rules for Writers which includes an entire section on all the important points of grammar.

I am very patient and know how to teach students how to use steps in their effort to reach a certain goal. I can also give guidance as to how to improve reading skills on a daily basis.

Writing

Writing is one my fields of expertise as I wrote two dissertations, a novel, and a number of articles. I was also an editor for both a legal and translation firms. For me good writing presents great vocabulary,excellent sentence structure, punctuation and clear ideas. The writer should also develop a personal style which fits his/her personality and topic.

Practicing French conversation with Martine is a wonderful experience. She gently corrects my grammar and vocabulary errors while keeping the conversation going on a variety of topics. Very pleased with our sessions.
