I’ve always been passionate about education and mentorship. Growing up with a mother who was a high school teacher for thirty-five years, I have seen firsthand the difference personal mentorship can make in the life of a student. That influence, combined with my lifelong love of science, led me toward both teaching and research.

I have a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees in biomedical science and physiology. Throughout my graduate training, I worked as a graduate student assistant teaching anatomy and physiology labs. I spent several years guiding nursing students through dissections and enjoyed helping them break down complex topics in biochemistry, genetics, and cell biology. In addition to my graduate work, I have also taught at a community college oriented towards educating young people from underprivileged backgrounds. As such, I have a lot of experience working with students who feel overwhelmed by science and I like helping them to build confidence and understanding.

I have extensive experience in research and worked for several years as a laboratory technician in a toxicology lab. This experience has given me first-hand knowledge of many scientific techniques as well as coordinating research and grant writing. Because of these experiences, I am better able to guide students who are seeking a future in STEM.

As a mentor, my goal is not just to help students memorize facts, but also to gain a deeper understanding of topics in science. Personally, I have many years of experience having to learn and digest large amounts of information, and I have several strategies and techniques that I can pass on to others. I want to guide my students through their anxieties about these complicated topics, help them develop better study habits, and aid them in finding the confidence to succeed in their science courses.

Anatomy

Anatomy

I have a master's degree in Biomedical Science, and am currently working on a PhD in Anatomy and Cell Biology. I have spent many hours working with human cadavers and studying human anatomy directly from the source. I have also hosted many undergraduate work shops, where I guided nursing students and prospective medical students through dissections and helped them to locate the various organs, bones, muscles, and nerves of the human body.
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

I learned all about the human brain during my undergrad courses in Human Anatomy and Physiology as well as a Clinical Anatomy course I took that was especially geared towards a medical perspective of the human body. In graduate school, I not only took a course in Neuroscience but also performed cadaver dissections, where I removed and studied actual human brains. I also spent several years as a graduate student assistant, tutoring nursing students in neuroscience and helping them to understand the brain's structure and function.
Physiology

Physiology

I have a Master's degree in Physiology from the University of Louisville, where I worked for four as a research assistant in a physiology lab. While there, I studied the cardiotoxicity of electronic cigarettes using a murine model. I also have a Master's degree Biomedical Science, which also required a lot of course work in human physiology and pathology. Finally, I have several years of teaching physiology to both nursing students as a GSA and in community college as an associate professor.
