Hi, I'm George! I am a current student at the University of Virginia, majoring in Neuroscience on the Pre-Med track. I received a 1520 on the SAT (750 RW, 770 M). I have previous tutoring experience throughout high school, focusing specifically on mathematics including Precalculus, Geometry, Algebra I and II, AP Calculus AB, and Calculus II, along with chemistry. I also have experience in college level courses such as Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Biological Psychology.
Throughout high school, I have served as a tutor in various student led organizations and nationally recognized Honor Societies. I exceeded the recommended hours of tutoring through one-on-one sessions in person and online. These sessions included revising college essays, studying for tests, along with preparing for end-of-year exams. I have also assisted many high achieving students on the SAT, with most earning in the 99th percentile. I have walked students through entire SATs explaining in great detail both English and Math sessions. One of my long term students saw significant progress in both their SAT, increasing by 200 points, along with several of their classes, increasing by 1 or more letter grades.
I teach using the EDGE method: Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, and Enable. This perspective on teaching allows the student to see and understand before they engage a problem. I like to use examples and personal anecdotes to reinforce what I teach. This method can be applied to almost every subject, Math, English, History, Chemistry, Biology and more. I believe learning should be something that is appreciated and valued, not boring.
