Hi! My name is Megana. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and minors in Psychology and Chemistry. I am now a fourth-year medical student at VCU, applying into Neurology for residency. I have over five years of tutoring experience and enjoy working with students of all ages.
Much of my experience has been with elementary and middle school students, particularly in math, science, and reading. I take a step-by-step approach, often breaking concepts down into smaller parts, to make learning more approachable. I also incorporate repetition, visual aids, and interactive practice to reinforce key ideas. I have tutored both one-on-one sessions and small groups ranging from 3-7 students. In one-on-one, I tailor each lesson to a student’s specific learning style, while in group tutoring I encourage collaboration, discussion, and peer-to-peer learning to keep everyone engaged. I also have experience working with students with learning differences, including those with ADHD and autism. For these students, I adapt my teaching strategies to match their strengths, whether that means using movement breaks, hands-on activities, or adjusting pacing. Supporting these students has been especially meaningful to me, and it was one of the experiences that inspired me to pursue a career in neurology.
In addition to tutoring younger learners, I have tutored students in high school and college level classes. I served as a Teaching Assistant for a masters level Anatomy and Physiology course, and tutored students taking molecular biology, immunology, and neuroscience courses. While tutoring higher level topics, I focus on simplifying difficult material through diagrams, analogies, and practice questions. I also emphasize study skills, such as active recall and spaced repetition. Whether a student needs help with fundamental skills or advanced coursework, I am committed to adapting my teaching style to their needs and making sure they feel supported every step of the way.
