Part-Time Math and Science Tutor
I have been helping answer Math and Science questions since high school. While in college I spent a lot of time tutoring high school students in Math and college students in Physics. I was awarded the Outstanding Lab Assistant and Tutor Award for Physics two years in a row. When I graduated I was the outstanding Graduate in Secondary Education (2005-06 graduating class) and the Outstanding Graduate in Physics (also for the 2005-06 graduating class). Since returning to New Jersey, I have received my NJ State Teaching License and have been enjoying tutoring in both Math and Physics as well as finding a permanent teaching position. I love the one-on-one interactions and experiences from tutoring to improve my teaching skills and abilities.
Since every student has different needs, my examples and methods are based on what works for your student. If the abstract concepts do not make sense, I try to create concrete examples that will. My job is help build confidence and reinforce content that was covered too quickly in school so that your student can demonstrate mastery of the subject in school for in class projects and tests.
The responsibility for learning does fall on the student. If they are not motivated to learn, my methods won't matter. The high school students I have tutored typically raise their grade a full letter grade by the time the class is complete, but they were intrinsically motivated to do better and I equipped them with the skills to do so.
I have a passion for learning and my goal is to help students develop a greater like for subjects typically disliked (or even hated) by clearing up confusion that creates frustration.
Very patient and great with kids
My son has been reluctant to have a tutor, but really enjoyed learning from Leah. She's very knowledgeable and gave him some great pointers in geometry. The next day in school he felt really confident with the math problems. She'll be tutoring him again next week.Zarnaaz, 11 lessons with Leah
Leah is very knowledgable and patient with my daughter.
She has had 2 sessions tutoring my daughter in Physics so far and it's going great. She really knows her stuff and even recognized where she should be in a typical syllabus. She is going to review some math topics she might need as well as the physics. She was able to relate concepts to real-life examples that made sense to my daughter. I'm not 100% confident that the tutoring will help with her test grades yet, but she certainly will have an overall better grasp. Leah also has a really positive and encouraging demeanor which is so helpful!Jessica, 3 lessons with Leah
Very helpful and flexible!
Leah has tutored my son a couple of times already, and we are very happy! She has a great approach and is helping our son regain confidence in Algebra II. We really appreciate her flexibility around scheduling too.Marlene, 15 lessons with Leah
Leah was so patient with me and she helped me understand how some of the problems I was working on could be applied outside of the classroom. It was a great experience!Sydney, 1 lesson with Leah
Tailors lessons to students needs
Leah is an excellent tutor. She provided excellent tutoring support for my older daughter and is now doing the same for my youngest daughter. She is very methodical, supportive and thoroughly understands the subject matter. Leah provides tips for easier ways to attack a problem and explains her reasoning. I only wish she was my daughters' actual teacher!Kayleigh, 32 lessons with Leah
Not advanced knowledge in Physics
Sorry to say. My daughter was not satisfied with Leah's second lesson. The tutor was not able to solve the physics problems. The tutor took so long to figure out how to do the problems.Padma, 2 lessons with LeahTutor responded:
I'm sorry your daughter did not feel our lesson went well. I did not have a lot of time to prepare for the lesson on circuits since I had spent time earlier in the week preparing for a lesson on charges, the topic from the previous week and none of the emails from earlier in the week indicated there would be a topic change. Your email informing me of the new topic was sent 22 hours before our lesson and I did not have time to review and go over all of the problems in the new topic. Plus, as we discussed at the first lesson, your daughter is a full topic ahead of all my other students so I was not reviewing the topic for anyone else to be able to switch gears on such short notice. While I agree I was not able to solve every problem (in the areas your daughter was not studying), I was able to answer the questions in the area your daughter was currently studying.
Leah is helping my daughter in Algebra 2. She is patient, takes the time to explain and knows the material well.Kenneth, 6 lessons with Leah
