My passion for mathematics and engineering education stems from my comprehensive academic foundation and extensive real-world experience. I earned both my bachelor's and master's degrees in Ocean Engineering from Virginia Tech, where I developed a deep understanding of advanced mathematical concepts and their practical applications. Over the past 15 years, I have worked as a practicing naval architect, consistently applying complex mathematical principles to solve engineering challenges in ship design and marine systems.
My tutoring journey spans over a decade, working with students ranging from 7 to 22 years old in both one-on-one and small group settings. I have successfully guided elementary students through foundational subjects including math, social studies, history, English, and reading, even teaching strategic thinking through chess. At the high school level, I have helped numerous students master precalculus, Calculus I, and Calculus II, focusing on building both computational skills and conceptual understanding. My experience extends to college-level instruction, where I have tutored students in calculus-based physics and Engineering Statics.
My teaching approach emphasizes connecting abstract mathematical concepts to real-world applications, drawing from my professional engineering experience to make lessons relevant and engaging. I believe in building confidence through incremental success, breaking down complex problems into manageable steps while encouraging independent thinking. Students consistently improve not only their grades but also develop stronger problem-solving abilities and mathematical intuition. My goal is to transform math anxiety into mathematical confidence, helping each student discover their potential and achieve academic success.
