I'm Julie! I am an engineer by trade, and I am passionate about helping students achieve their potential in the fields of math and science.
I graduated magna cum laude with my bachelor's degree in physics with minors in chemistry and math. I also have my master's degree in optical engineering and will be completing my doctorate in the same field in Spring 2026. Throughout my education, I always thrived in classrooms where teachers were engaging and able to make even the more difficult topics they were teaching accessible. This is my approach to tutoring as well.
As a tutor, I start by gauging my students’ level of comfort with a subject and determine areas that will need extra focus. I present lessons in an interactive way, walking students through several example problems before giving them time to practice the skills on their own, followed by review together. I also like to leave students with additional practice problems between tutoring sessions so that they can continue to practice topics they have yet to master. I find that in both math and science, repetition is a key element for success.
Throughout my time as an undergraduate and graduate student, I served as a teaching assistant for several levels of college physics classes. I also volunteered as a tutor for middle and high school students in math classes ranging from pre-algebra to calculus 3. While finishing my master’s degree, I worked as a middle school science teacher for half a year and a high school algebra and physics teacher for one year.
I look forward to working with you and/or your child. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson.
