I am a biology major at George Mason University and will graduate with my Bachelor of Science in December 2026. I have studied genetics, microbiology, cell biology, human physiology, and ecology. My main focus is high school / middle school biology, though I can also help students taking introductory college biology. I know how confusing biology can feel when a textbook introduces several unfamiliar terms at once, and I enjoy helping students make sense of them.
For the past 3 years, I have worked as a substitute teacher with Arlington Public Schools, including in middle and high school classrooms. I have also been a teaching assistant for a college biology course and have tutoring experience. Working with students at different levels has helped me recognize when an explanation needs to change. Some students need to see a diagram, while others understand better when we connect the topic to something familiar.
I explain concepts in simple language and work through difficult material one step at a time. For example, when explaining a process like photosynthesis, I start with what the plant takes in and what it produces before introducing the details. I ask students to explain ideas back in their own words so we can see what still needs practice. Students can bring questions from class or topics they want to review before an exam. I want them to feel comfortable saying, “I still don't understand,” so we can work through it together.
