I love teaching and have more than two years of professional tutoring experience. I specializing in reading and writing skills as well as English as a foreign language. I work primarily with students in K-12 though I also enjoy teaching adult learners. I am patient and encouraging, and always tailor lessons specifically to each student's unique learning style and strengths. I am also very goal-oriented--I continually monitor students' progress to make sure they're hitting benchmarks and moving forward toward achieving their goal.

For the last two years I have been tutoring K-12 students five days a week in person, at a local tutoring center. I primarily work with students to craft compelling essays about books they've read. For younger learners we focus on phonics, and basic reading and writing skills. Earlier this year I completed an ESL certification course from the International TEFL Academy, and since early May I have been teaching adult English learners online, generally three to four days a week. I teach students from around the world, who range from A1 to C1 English proficiency levels. I take time to understand exactly what each student's goals are, what they find most challenging, and how they learn best, to design lesson plans to maximize their progress.

In addition to my TEFL certification, I hold a bachelors degree in journalism from the University of Alabama, a masters degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley, and I have about 20 years of experience working as a professional writer and communications strategist for companies, nonprofits, and political candidates.
