Hi, I'm Keyvan, and I'm excited to help students build confidence and skill in math and science. I hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University, and through years of rigorous coursework and research I've developed a deep, practical understanding of how math and science concepts build on one another, knowledge I'm eager to pass on in a way that's clear and approachable rather than intimidating. I work well with students at a range of levels, from those just getting comfortable with algebraic fundamentals to those prepping for the math section of the SAT, and I particularly enjoy helping students who feel like math "just isn't their thing" realize that with the right explanation, it actually clicks. I understand how frustrating it can be to feel stuck on a concept, especially when the rest of the class seems to be moving on, and I try to meet every student exactly where they are rather than rushing through a one-size-fits-all approach.
My approach to tutoring is patient, practical, and focused on building real understanding rather than just memorizing steps. I like to start by figuring out where a student's confusion actually begins, sometimes it's a gap from a few lessons back, rather than just reviewing the current homework. From there, I break problems down into manageable pieces, use plenty of practice problems to reinforce new ideas, and check in frequently to make sure concepts are actually sticking before moving on. Whether we're working through SAT math strategies or balancing chemical equations, my goal is for each student to leave a session feeling more confident and less anxious about the subject than when we started.
