Helping students succeed has always been something I genuinely love, and it's what has kept me coming back to tutoring . While my career has led me into finance for the time being, I am deeply passionate about education reform and hope to stay close to the teaching field. I completed a MA in Education Policy Studies at George Washington University in 2024 with the specific goal of how to reform our system to better serve 21st century problems. My foremost responsibility in teaching and tutoring is to help a student reach their stated goal in the short term and to create successful, well-rounded adults in the long term.
I started tutoring in 2017 at the learning center of my college, SUNY Plattsburgh, where I would go on to earn a BA in History. I picked up private tutoring again in 2020, working remotely with students of all ages in history, geography, politics, and writing, and have continued doing so ever since. Given that I have also worked in wealth management for the past 5 years, I am looking to start offering lessons in financial literacy. I should be very clear to state that these would not constitute financial advice or planning, but more so the basics for young people to feel informed and build good habits.
I start with every new student by establishing clear learning goals. The actual teaching methods that I use vary widely depending on the subject and student. Sometimes a more traditional recall approach works best for one student doing AP test prep, while another learning politics may do better with a thought-provoking video and some Socratic discussion. I have worked with a wide variety of students over the years, and one of the things I really enjoy about teaching is finding the methods that work best for them.
