About Matthew

Bio

I am a college student studying with a very strong background in math. I currently have a 3.88 GPA in college and graduated high school with a 4.32 GPA while obtaining an A in every math class I have taken. Math has been my favorite subject since elementary school and I am particularly fond of algebra. All of my schooling has given me a strong foundation across algebraic concepts, strategic problem solving, and the ability to full understand problems and explain them clearly.

Over the past two years I have worked with students generally from grades 6 - 11. Most of the work is one on one and taught online. My tutoring has focused on helping with school work that was assigned by the teacher and guiding them through the problems so they can understand and solve them on their own. My overall goal is for the students to understand the math concepts and treat math as a language, rather than memorizing steps and ideas that won't help in the long run.

When certain students are struggling, I like to do some research and put together some practice problems that I think will challenge the student and provide some information outside of what the teacher has assigned. I want to create a comfortable work environment where the student feels like they can ask questions and feel like they can reach out or speak up if they aren't understanding something. Outside of tutoring, I work as a flag football referee and am also apart of my neighborhood volunteer program, which has given me experience working with kids and understanding how to deal with difficult situations. I have developed strong communication skills because of these experiences and I've learned how to explain things in a clear and simple manner that will keep the students engaged during our tutoring sessions.
