Hi, I'm Doni! I'm a Level 3 tutor certified by the College Reading and Learning Association. My own degree in International Policy involved ample research. I have had to read through some of the most famous and difficult essays in the world and think through them to provide a new and unique take that was then delivered in papers that were tens of pages long. Thus, I have extensive experience in researching and writing myself. In college the director of the university's writing tutoring center personally asked me to become a tutor in my English 101 class. I tutored from then until graduation. I performed so well in tutoring that the director promoted me to supervisor and lead tutor. While a collegiate tutor, I worked with students of all grade levels, including both undergraduate and graduate, English Language Learners, job-seekers, and through partner programs with local high schools. During these seven semesters, I met one-on-one with ten to twenty students per week for writing help in every imaginable subject from creative writing to information systems to the science of water to business administration.
As an English Fellow, I reviewed current lessons with students, whether grammar or literature, and then used the Socratic method to pose questions to help them think more critically about the material. We would use those discussions to inspire essays in line with their assignment, and then I would lead group revising sessions so students were able to analyze their classmates' work in addition to their own. In one-on-one sessions, I use many different tutoring approaches. If you have an assigned topic, but don't know where to start, then I will work with you to brainstorm ideas and find research to support them. Or if you have ideas and they're all written out, but don't quite seem to make sense, then we can work on organizational structure.
