In addition, I am trained in Wilson Reading, Orton Gilllingham Comprehensive, and Orton Gillingham Intermediate. Currently I am a special education teacher working for an Arlington Public Schools middle school teaching Structured Literacy. Structured Literacy utilizes a systematic, explicit, and cumulative direct instruction in two broad areas: word recognition (phonological awareness, decoding and sight recognition) and language comprehension (background knowledge, vocabulary, language structures, verbal reasoning, and literacy knowledge). Overall, structure literacy emphasizes word recognition. I employ diagnostic teaching to target gaps in foundational literacy skills that prevent students from accessing grade level curricula. Reading instruction follows a research based sequence and is guided by student performance on diagnostic assessments and frequent progress monitoring. My lessons foster a sense of self-efficacy, sense of community, and utilizing literacy to achieve goals. Students will build language comprehension and word recognition aligned with the Science of Reading.

I bring over 28 years of teaching in public and private schools, at a variety of grade levels. Feel free to contact me if you have questions and/or to discuss your academic needs.
Please ask me for references as most of my clients I acquired by referrals.
