I'm Greg. I graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry. I focused on organic chemistry in my elective courses, and did undergraduate research for 3 years in a lab working on pharmaceutical development. After undergraduate, I began a PhD in chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) in the organic chemistry program, and although I realized it wasn't a good fit for me, I still gained some valuable experiences in the lab and classroom. I recognized how professors who really put an emphasis on understanding the fundamentals lead to a greater understanding, as opposed to simply memorizing and regurgitating facts presented. This is an approach I like to take with my tutoring. Students can bring their own materials, and/or I can supplement with my own; the goal is to match the student's needs and help them succeed.
At Virginia Tech, I was a tutor through Alpha Chi Sigma, the professional chemistry fraternity, where I helped my peers in courses I had already taken. Sometimes I would work with individual students, and other times groups of varying sizes. At UPenn I was a TA for chemistry lectures and labs. Responsibilities included holding classroom sized recitations, holding office hours for more individualized attention, and holding exam reviews for a lecture hall. I also worked as a tutor for C2 Education, where I aided students in course work and test prep. This work consisted of individualized approaches for 1-3 students at a time.
I want students to feel confident and fulfilled by having a true understanding of a subject. Chemistry is often a daunting course to many students, but it doesn't have to be! I do work through the week, but I will try to respond ASAP. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a session!
