I am a retired civil servant enthusiastically embarking on a second career in teaching and tutoring. I bring over eight years of experience helping students build confidence and master challenging material.

In high school I tutored my fellow classmates in math, algebra, and geometry via a formal established tutoring program at my school. I received the Student of the Month Award in recognition of my tutoring work. In college I tutored my fellow classmates in economics, and I also tutored foreign students from several countries to help them with their English language skills. In graduate school and the years following I tutored my classmates in the Arabic language. I am currently a Sunday School teacher in a classroom setting for the 4th/5th grade class at my church.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Affairs with a minor in Economics, graduating summa cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. I then earned a Master of Arts degree in Foreign Service with an Economics concentration and was named to the Dean’s List for Academic Excellence. I have also completed training in helping young students engage with learning material and identifying root causes for when students struggle in school. During my 30-year government career, I extensively used my knowledge of math, English composition, economics, statistics, and Excel, and this professional experience further strengthens my ability to tutor these subjects.

My approach to tutoring begins with understanding where you are and what your goals are. Oftentimes difficulties in a subject stem from not understanding fully earlier lessons. Once I determine where you are, I'll go back and review the fundamental principles with you to give you a solid foundation upon which additional learning can be built. My personal approach has allowed me to enable my students to achieve a deep understanding of the subject matter at hand.
