I am Tate, a current student tutor at Duke University, studying Physics and Music Composition. I graduated from St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School in 2025, where I took 10 AP classes, scoring a 5 on AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, AP Statistics, AP US Government, AP Comparative Government, AP English Language, AP US History, and AP World History. In addition to being a National Merit Scholarship winner, I earned the David Donald Gayle Scholarship for Mathematics and the National Association of Physics Teachers Outstanding Student Award. I scored a 1580 on my SAT and have experience teaching SAT prep.
I started tutoring around two years at Mathnasium, where I continue to teach math of all levels, from basic arithmetic to calculus, at two locations. This has taught me not only what to teach but how to teach it, especially to enthusiastic yet easily distracted children. I especially love watching my students beam with excitement when a concept they initially struggled with finally "clicks." I most frequently use the Socratic Method, essentially asking students more and more targeted questions to facilitate a deeper understanding than rote memorization of facts.
I am experienced in tutoring all mathematics, from Pre-algebra up through Calculus 1 and 2, including Geometry and Statistics. I am also confident in teaching Physics, especially the AP Curriculum, as well as all SAT prep. Feel free to reach out with any questions, and I look forward to being your tutor!
