I believe that for students to learn they need to do so in a comfortable environment where they feel they can ask questions when they don't understand. They also need to be taught by someone who makes the subject fun and finds different ways to teach that student, especially if the student doesn't enjoy that subject.
When teaching students I start by explaining what it is we will be doing that day. Then, I'll explain what the concept is and find example questions for me to do with them. Next, I'll provide them with a multitude of different questions to let them practice by themselves, and if they come up with any questions I let them ask. Lastly, I end with a fun activity. This method will of course change depending on the student and what subject they are learning.
I have tutored Algebra 1 for a year and all math under that. I have also tutored English with help in essay writing and fixing grammar and punctuation.
