Hello! My name is Milena, and I am completing my Master’s degree in Scientific Computing at the University of Utah. I also hold a B.S. in Applied Mathematics with a concentration in Computer Science and a minor in Business Administration. My academic and professional background blends advanced mathematics, computing, and communication skills.

I have extensive teaching and tutoring experience across multiple disciplines. At the University of Utah, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for 4 semesters, supporting a course in Discrete Mathematics for more than 250 students each term. I also taught physics, mathematics, and statistics to peers during my undergraduate studies. Beyond STEM, I have tutored English to international students, helping them prepare for TOEFL and IELTS exams, which gave me additional experience teaching language structure and test strategies.

I specialize in mathematics (algebra, calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, statistics, physics), computer science (Java, Python, MATLAB, scientific computing, data analysis, data science, data mining, machine learning), and test prep (SAT/ACT Math, GRE Quantitative, TOEFL/IELTS English preparation). My approach is flexible: I adapt to each student’s background, break down difficult concepts, and focus on both understanding and problem-solving skills so that students gain lasting confidence.

I look forward to helping you succeed in math, science, computer science, or test preparation, and I’m excited to support your academic and professional goals.

Common Core

Common Core

With years of experience tutoring high school math and science, I provide clear and patient support for students working within Common Core curricula. I’ve taught algebra, statistics, and physics to peers and undergraduates, and I adapt lessons to student goals and school standards.
Computer Engineering

Computer Engineering

I have a strong foundation in programming (Java, Python, MATLAB) and computing systems from coursework in Object-Oriented Programming, Algorithms, and Data Structures. My graduate work in Scientific Computing has deepened my understanding of computation on advanced architectures. I can help students master the essentials of computer engineering through hands-on problem solving.
Computer Science

Computer Science

I studied Computer Science as part of my B.S. in Applied Mathematics with a concentration in CS, and continued with graduate courses in algorithms and computing at the University of Utah. I have hands-on experience with Java, Python, MATLAB, and data structures, and I served as a Teaching Assistant for 4 semesters. I enjoy making programming concepts approachable and practical for students from high school to college.
Data Analysis

Data Analysis

I completed courses in Elementary Probability Theory, Numerical Analysis, and Statistics at UNC and applied these skills in graduate data visualization and independent study projects. I have experience with data analysis tools such as Python (Pandas, NumPy), MATLAB, Microsoft Excel, TABLEAU, and R. I also taught statistics to peers.
Data Science

Data Science

I took Fundamentals of Data Science, Directed Study in Data Science, and Data Mining and applied these methods to my graduate research in Scientific Computing. My projects involve using Python, PyTorch, and MATLAB to analyze large data sets and develop predictive models. I specialize in helping students bridge theory and practice in data science.
Data Structures

Data Structures

I completed Algorithms and Data Structures at UNC and Graduate Algorithms at the University of Utah. With experience coding in Java and Python, I can explain core data structures (linked lists, trees, graphs, etc.) and algorithms in a clear, step-by-step way.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for Discrete Mathematics at the University of Utah, teaching and grading for over 250 students each semester for 4 semesters total. I also completed undergraduate coursework in Discrete Mathematics with excellent results. My teaching style focuses on logic, proofs, and problem-solving strategies.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I have taken multiple English composition and research writing courses, and I have experience tutoring students in essay writing for both academic coursework and standardized exams. My own TOEFL score was 87 (21 Reading, 21 Listening, 23 Speaking, 22 Writing) before studying in the U.S., so I understand what international students need to succeed.
IELTS

IELTS

Before moving to the U.S., I prepared students in Belarus for TOEFL and IELTS exams. With my own TOEFL score of 87, I personally experienced the challenges of international test preparation. I focus on reading, listening, writing, and speaking practice, while providing clear strategies to maximize scores.
Linux

Linux

I use Linux daily for graduate-level research in Scientific Computing at the University of Utah, including work on high-performance computing clusters (SLURM job scheduling, CADE lab, Lonepeak). I am proficient in command-line tools, scripting, package management, and system navigation. I can help beginners learn Linux basics or guide advanced users through applied workflows in data science, programming, and scientific research.
Machine Learning/ AI

Machine Learning/ AI

I studied Fundamentals of Data Science, Data Mining, and graduate-level Scientific ML. My research involves training neural networks (DeepONets) for PDEs, using frameworks like PyTorch and JAX. I can explain ML concepts from theory to hands-on coding, including supervised/unsupervised learning and neural networks.
MATLAB

MATLAB

I’ve used MATLAB extensively in courses like Numerical Analysis and in graduate research for Scientific Computing. I can help with MATLAB programming, data visualization, matrix operations, and solving applied math and engineering problems.
Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows

I completed Business Computing at UNC and applied Microsoft 365 tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word) in academic and professional settings. I also had a minor in Business Administration during my undergraduate degree. I can help beginners and advanced users master these tools efficiently, whether for school, business, or everyday productivity.
Real Analysis

Real Analysis

I took Basic Analysis I and Real Analysis I as part of my Applied Mathematics degree. I focus on explaining rigorous concepts like limits, continuity, sequences, and convergence in an intuitive way, while guiding students through proofs and exercises.
Russian

Russian

I am a native Russian and Belarusian speaker who has studied and taught English, making me skilled at helping English speakers learn Russian effectively. I focus on conversation, grammar, reading comprehension, and cultural context.
Tableau

Tableau

I worked with data visualization in Data Science and Visualization for Data Science courses. I can guide students through Tableau dashboards, storytelling with data, and integrating Tableau into analytics workflows.
Tennis

Tennis

I played Division I tennis for both Lamar University and the University of Northern Colorado, and I was ranked 1694 in the ITF on 16/01/2017. I also served as Assistant Coach at the Tennis Academy of Belarus. I offer lessons in technique, strategy, and conditioning for players of all levels.
