I've unofficially tutored my younger siblings in various subjects since I was a little girl. I didn't know I was tutoring at the time, but I did know that I enjoyed the feeling I got when I helped my siblings learn something new one-on-one.
I am currently tutoring in Language Arts, which I have done before, and I have also gained tutoring experience working with intermediate-level ESL students at BYU as part of my minor. I worked primarily with grammar and writing, but I also have some training for oral skills as well.
I am fascinated by how languages work and how humans use them to communicate. In fact, I was interested enough that I chose to obtain a linguistics degree that focuses on the English language. I don't mind questions about the countless weird rules and exceptions in the English language that can sometimes mess students up - if I don't know the answers, I usually know where I can find them.
I understand both what it's like to love to read and write, and what it's like to hate to read and write for an assignment. I believe that English classes sometimes contribute to the problem by not adequately addressing the needs of individual learners. I love to work with parents and students toward specific goals for Language Arts and for English.
If you wish that your child could have some help learning Language Arts or writing that focuses more on individualized needs, why not see how I can help you?
