About Christine

For over 17 years, I have taught, mentored, and guided children and teens both academically and behaviorally in a variety of school settings. As an educator, advisor, and academic consultant, I have much to offer Copper Hills Youth Center as Director of Clinical Services.

After 3 years providing home health care, I am now seeking to re-enter the field of education in a position where I can utilize my extensive expertise to foster student success. The attached resume details my qualifications:

•As the Academic Coordinator for a therapeutic boarding school for boys, I established systems to track student progress and abilities and to source outside educational program to meet students’ needs. This reduced redundancies in students’ coursework and enabled students to make better progress toward graduation. In addition, I enforced a school-wide behavioral management program that could be consistently applied by every teacher round the clock.

•As a special education teacher for public and private schools, I have dealt with students with a diverse range of physical, emotional, and learning disabilities. Past positions include teaching at Utah State Hospital’s school and at the Decker Lake Juvenile Correction Facility. Course specialties include math, science, health, PE, and social skills.

•In every professional environment, I demonstrate dedication to student-centered learning, inclusion, and accommodation. I offer a master’s degree in Education, plus endorsements in Mild, Moderate, and Severe Special Education and Level 2 Math. My commitment to at-risk youth is demonstrated by my years as a specialized foster parent, reaching out to severely traumatized children as well as youth in custody.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I am a k-12 mild/moderate/severe certified special education teacher with more than a decade of experience. I have worked with kids of all ages with and without disabilities. Kids with ADD/ADHD become easily bored and distracted if the material being taught is not interesting to them. The key is figuring out what interests them and using that to motivate and help them stay focused.
