Hello! I’m a PhD student in Microbiology and Immunology with undergraduate degrees in both English and Biotechnology, and I love helping students gain confidence in challenging subjects. My academic training allows me to work comfortably across science and writing, whether that means breaking down complex biological concepts, strengthening analytical thinking, or helping students clearly communicate their ideas. I primarily work with high school and college students, and I especially enjoy supporting students who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of their abilities in science or writing-heavy courses.
My tutoring experience began during my first undergraduate degree, when I completed university-level tutoring coursework and worked extensively with students in introductory college chemistry. Since then, I have tutored general chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, writing, and SAT preparation. After earning my biotechnology degree, I spent several years working in research laboratories, which helps me connect classroom material to real-world scientific applications and career paths. I also speak Mandarin fluently and have experience teaching English to young children while living in China. I spent one semester directly enrolled at Nanjing University and another interning at a local nonprofit in Beijing. English teaching was just a fun side gig at the time.
In my tutoring sessions, I focus on building a strong conceptual foundation. I begin by identifying where confusion starts, then work step-by-step to reinforce understanding, problem-solving strategies, and effective study habits. I aim to create a supportive, structured environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, because that’s where real learning happens. Instead of stating answers, I often ask questions that help my students arrive at the answers themselves. My goal is help my students become independent learners so that they don’t need me in the future.
