I have years of experience teaching and tutoring many subjects and ages. In college I worked as a peer mentor in the biology department, and was very involved in STEM outreach efforts to underrepresented and at risk populations. Since graduation I have worked professionally as a tutor to middle school and high school students working most frequently in the subjects of math, science, and social studies. Most recently, I taught field science to young students at Teton Science Schools in Jackson, WY. It was a combination of my favorite things: being outside, and sharing my passion for science with students!

My goal as a teacher is to help build students' confidence by thoughtfully guiding them as they seek to understand subject material.

Before finding my academic stride in high school I struggled to learn at the upper elementary and middle school levels. I remember how critical a patient and understanding tutor can be to student success. It has always been important to me to help students who are struggling reach their full potential. I know, first hand, that it is possible!

I grew up in northern Michigan where I spent my summers playing in beautiful lakes and my winters skating and skiing. After earning a BS in Biological Sciences from Michigan Technological University, I moved west and pursued a career ski patrolling and guiding, splitting my time between Alta, Utah and Mt. Hood, Oregon. Lifelong learning is very important to me. As such, STEM outreach and tutoring have been integral parts of my adult life. It has been part of my job as an outdoor professional to work with adults in outdoor education, teaching Outdoor Emergency Care and safe back-country travel skills and techniques.

My math education has included classes up through Linear Algebra & Differential Equations. I prefer to teach Prealgebra, Algebra 1 and 2, and Precalculus.

Biology

I specialize in teaching AP Biology and have helped countless students succeed in the course over the years. I particularly enjoy supporting students through the first few units, which can often feel overwhelming. The sheer volume of material—ranging from biomolecules and chemical bonding to cell structure, function, and cell transport—can be a lot to take in at the start of the school year. I take the time to teach effective study strategies, recommend helpful resources, and guide students in developing a strong approach to the course. In addition to AP Biology, I also enjoy teaching college-level General Biology and high school biology. My academic interests are centered around human molecular biology.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Even though we had some technical issues, Kaile is a patient tutor. With her knowledge, I was able to reply to one of my classmates' discussions during our session. I was able to reply to another classmate a day or two later. By using what I was taught by the tutor...
