Bio

I have made my living in the art industry working alongside studio artists from Disney, Warner Brothers, Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and fine artists that feature in shows all across America. I have had over 500 art shows myself, and sold over 4,000 pieces nationally and internationally! I spend my spare time learning and working.

I like to find out what my students are interested in. Curiosity applies to EVERYTHING! I love to learn, and help others do the same. I use this method for...

I use this method for writing, reading, testing, remembering information, lateral thinking, problem solving, and research. I ran the tutoring department at The Art Institute of Portland, tutoring in all the core subjects.

I have cross-discipline training in art, painting, printmaking, music, writing, business, finance, sculpture, woodworking, design, marketing, manufacturing, music composition, recording and distribution, adhesives (personal favorite), copywriting, creative writing and world building. I have broad experience in fine arts, art history, illustration, multiple materials and methods, both digital, analog, and 3D. I love to keep my audiences engaged, whatever age group or experience level.

My life work is to make everything better than I found it. Failing that, I can also resort to sarcasm and wit. Ask me about my list of shows and accomplishments. If you want a really different way to see things? I'm your tutor!

I helped many students at the Art Institute of Portland with their math, physics, drawing and anatomy, english, writing, spelling, research and core subjects (General education). I worked with children K-12 in core studies, and art. I use all available resources and a ton of lateral thinking and creative problem solving to make study skills effective. I also use a lot of humor.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

I have a very strong vocabulary, with a tried and true way to build a stronger one. I took latin as a gradeschooler, heavily using latin roots to define and remember new words. I read several dictionaries cover to cover over the years, and currently have Webster's New Twentieth Century Unabridged library edition compendium of words, (some out of use) that we can adventure through together where even the internet hasn't reached yet!
Writing

Writing

I wrote several research papers and essays that helped me graduate with my BFA as well as gain college scholarships for my expenses. I have tutored 100's of students at Art Institute of Portland in English and Language Arts. I have written hundreds of different show statements and fine art descriptors that have been included in publications such as the Portland Mercury, and the Willamette Weekly. I utilize all available resources, and have great organizational and fact-finding methods.

Build skills to gain confidence

Sarah paid attention and focused deeply on me and what I need. Feels like I will get focused attention and teaching while she coaches me to develop and attain my artistic goals.

Marti, 4 lessons with Sarah

Sarah is a knowledgeable and thorough teacher

I learned more more in one hour with Sarah than in four weeks of my art class. I highly recommend Sarah for help with sketches. I needed help with perspective and two point perspective. I received help with everything I needed.
