Previously, I graduated with honors in Zoology from Weber State University, with a minor in Botany. My program was science and math intensive. While there, I enjoyed tutoring college students in Zoology, Botany, Chemistry, English, and Writing. I certified as a Master Tutor through the College Reading and Learning Association, and even received Tutor of the Month, and Tutor of the Year awards. Additionally, I worked at an elementary school in their after school program, helping students with homework, and served as a teacher assistant for a special education teacher.
I also received a master's degree in Ecology from Utah State University. Again, I had top grades and my program was science and math intensive. I am also very skilled with English/Writing, and my research has been published in scientific journals. I spent the last five years tutoring students in grades K-12 in math and reading, for a local tutoring agency. I can tutor ages 5 through adult in a variety of subjects. I even have experience tutoring special education students. It makes me happy to see students improve, see see their confidence increase, and to see them learn to be more independent learners. I teach material in a way that students can relate to it, so that it stays in their memory longer. I try to incorporate a hands-on approach to learning as much as possible, to really get students engaged in their learning. I am trained and skilled in Orton-Gillingham methodology. I have experience tutoring students one-on-one, and also in small groups. My goal is to help each student I tutor succeed.
