About Elizabeth

Bio

I am new to tutoring, but I have experience teaching children. As a high school student I taught County tennis over the summer. I tried to help my students have fun while also learning the fundamentals of the sport. I believe that children should be taken completely seriously wherever they are in the process of growth. I foster a spirit of creativity, critical thinking, and positivity in all I know, and I am particularly patient with younger learners.

I will help build your student's confidence in herself to tackle difficult problems. I believe in fostering resilience through positive feedback and close attention to both strengths and deficits. It is important for a student to have a holistic sense of her potential and areas for improvement so that grades alone don't become the dominant motivation. As a highly intelligent student who also felt a great deal of anxiety about grades and being the best, I can work with your student to be the best they can be but also moderate feelings of inadequacy by promoting a bigger picture of lifelong learning and continuous effort (rather than relying on raw intellect and a few key failures to determine worth).

Academic achievement has driven me forward in life, and I would not have gotten into BYU or Yale without an excellent scholastic record. I will help each student set goals and work toward completing them. I aim for not just competence but proficiency and excellence in academic endeavors. I can help your student master the fundamentals of reading, writing, and editing, which have stood me in good stead over the years and which I believe to be essential building blocks of a successful career in any field.

English literature, writing, and editing are my passions, and I have extensive experience and success in these fields. As a high school student, I scored a 4 on the AP English test and a 35 on the ACT reading comprehension section. As an English undergraduate and graduate student, I immersed myself in a love for beautiful works of literature. As a BYU student I
