About Chad

Hello everyone!

My name is Chad and I have been teaching for 11 years. I have taught junior high level through adults in both Spanish and English as a Second Language. I excel in a 1 on 1 setting where I can specialize instruction for students to meet their individual needs.

I started learning Spanish in junior high school and continued through high school taking AP Spanish. I then served an LDS mission in Spain for two years where I furthered my ability to speak Spanish. When I started college I decided I wanted to become a teacher and because I enjoyed the Spanish language so much, I chose to become a Spanish teacher.

I love tutoring students and seeing the light in their eyes when they understand concepts and vocabulary that has been just out of their reach before. I can help a student succeed in all areas of English or Spanish including reading, writing, listening or speaking.

I believe that students need to be exposed to different cultures and languages so that they can be ready to live in an ever changing world. I help students to use the strengths and learning styles that they are already good at to help them learn Spanish easier, quicker, and to remember it better.

Please contact me to learn more and to schedule a lesson today so we can begin our language learning adventure together.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have a minor in English as a Second Language and have been teaching adults and students for the past 11 years. I taught Adult ESL classes in the Jordan School District for 5 years. For the past 2 years I have been doing individual 1 on 1 tutoring with employees of several businesses who have asked me to help some of their employees improve their English skills.

Phonics

I am qualified to teach phonics because I have a minor in English as a Second Language which required several Phonics and Phonology classes. I also majored in Spanish with in depth course work in Spanish phonics. I have been teaching phonics to beginning English learners for the last 10 years in a public school.

Praxis

I have taken and passed the PRAXIS. I have also worked with teachers during their first few years to take and pass the PRAXIS.

Reading

I have been working with low-level readers for the past 11 years. I have worked with students to improve their reading comprehension and fluency. The purpose of reading and improving fluency is for students to reach automaticity (where they can recognize the word automatically).

I have worked with students to help improve their reading level from not being able to read anything to being able to complete grade level work within the same year.

Spanish

I have been learning Spanish since junior high and I love it! I took all levels of Spanish in high school including AP. I served an LDS mission in Spain where I greatly improved my ability to speak and understand Spanish. After I returned, I decided to continue my study of Spanish and pursued and obtained a bachelor's degree in Spanish. I have been teaching Spanish for the last 11 years.

TOEFL

I have worked with several students in the last 2 years in preparing for the TOEFL Exam. They have successfully taken and passed the TOEFL Exam after I have helped them.
